Trauma-Informed Care for Attorneys

Trauma-Informed Care has become a buzz word in fields that interact with victims and survivors of gender-based violence, but what does that actually mean? In this all-day training, we will aim to provide realistic, practical, and applicable information regarding the assessment of, intervention of, and support of victims of Domestic Violence. Specifically, we will provide training in the areas of DV 101 to help attorneys better understand the dynamics of domestic violence. We will discuss how trauma impacts the brain, causing neurological responses as well as counter-intuitive behaviors. We will also cover effective communication and intervention when working with victims of domestic violence, as it relates to their readiness for change. Finally, we will end with a conversation about the effect of vicarious trauma on our ability to continue in this work
