Power, Control, and Prevention: A Survivor-Centered Lens on HIV & DV

August 26 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm
Free

Description: This interactive training explores the critical intersections of HIV and domestic violence (DV), emphasizing the role of language, beliefs, and attitudes in shaping survivor experiences and health outcomes. Participants will gain foundational knowledge of HIV, including transmission facts and testing, as well as an overview of prevention strategies.

Through a trauma-informed lens, the training will examine how power, control, and trauma impact survivors’ vulnerability to HIV and affect disclosure and access to care. Participants will engage in activities to deepen their understanding of these dynamics and learn promising practices for integrating sexual health conversations, safety planning, and support around HIV disclosure into survivor services.

Finally, the training will highlight the importance of meaningful and sustainable partnerships and what it means to build survivor-centered partnerships, including with people living with HIV (PLWHA).
