SUMMARY:Genesis Lunch & Learn: Why Women Choose the Bear
DESCRIPTION:  \nBring your lunch & join us every 4th Thursday \nDescription: In celebration of Women’s History Month\, this presentation will recognize the significant impact women have made in addressing women’s equality but also the violence that continues to be perpetrated against them. The observance not only honors women’s achievements but also highlights the ongoing need for gender equality and the continued fight for women’s rights. This presentation will also share the dangers for women hiding behind and within Executive Orders\, legislation and the vile expressions that broadly contribute to a national resurgence of misogyny and reduction of women’s rights. \nParticipants will become familiar with the history of The Women’s Rights Movement as well as today’s threats to eliminate those rights for which our mothers and grandmothers fought so hard. We will examine the impact of Project 2025 on today’s women and gender equality. Attendees will discuss the novel and popular TV series\, The Handmaid’s Tale and learn of the slippery slope towards the gradual elimination of gender equality. The presenter will also share a study from the University of Debrecen\, Hungary which examines the small steps leading to the elimination of gender equality\, describing the Four D’s: Distinction\, Dependence\, Division and Dominance. The goal of this presentation is to better understand the work we have ahead of us to ensure that rights for women are not lost\, stolen or given away. \nSpeaker:\n \nJan Langbein\nCEO\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support \nCEUs: 1.5 for LPC\, SW\, LMFT \nLOCATION:\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support\nNational Training Center ● 2023 Lucas Drive\, Dallas\, TX 75219\nOr join us for the simultaneous webinar on Zoom by registering HERE \nIf you can’t join us for the live event\, you can contact training@genesisshelter.org after 3/27/25 to receive a copy of the recording. SUMMARY:Genesis Lunch & Learn: Safety Planning in IPV
DESCRIPTION:  \nBring your lunch & join us every 4th Thursday \nDescription: Safety planning is an essential part of working with victims of domestic violence. Safety planning begins with helping clients identify what they are already doing to minimize the risk of harm. We recognize that a victim cannot stop the abusive partner from abusing her. However\, when we can equip her with safety planning ideas\, she can feel more confident and competent in navigating her specific situation in a way that hopefully decreases the likelihood of the escalation of violence. \nThis workshop will guide participants through the process of safety planning with victims of intimate partner violence. We will explore the danger signs of physical safety\, identifying what factors can increase a victim’s danger level. Participants will also gain awareness of the emotional safety needs of victims of domestic violence. Finally\, participants will practice safety planning through client scenarios. \nSpeakers:\n \nRuth Guerreiro\, LCSW-S\nChief Clinical Officer\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support \nJordyn Lawson\, MA\, LPC-S\nChief Residential Officer\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support \nCEUs: 1.5 for LPC\, SW\, LMFT \nLOCATION:\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support\nNational Training Center ● 2023 Lucas Drive\, Dallas\, TX 75219\nOr join us for the simultaneous webinar on Zoom by registering HERE \nIf you can’t join us for the live event\, you can contact training@genesisshelter.org after 4/24/25 to receive a copy of the recording. SUMMARY:Genesis Lunch & Learn: Diagnosing Domestic Violence: How do you know she's telling the truth? What are her symptoms telling you?
DESCRIPTION:  \nBring your lunch & join us every 4th Thursday \nDescription: Defense attorneys often accuse victim advocates of believing everyone who says they experienced domestic abuse. Additionally\, victims often receive misdiagnoses that negatively impact their court case or treatment options. This workshop will present trauma-informed screening questions and assessment skills to better equip service providers during initial evaluations to recognize intimate partner violence. Typical trauma symptoms will be looked at as they relate to various mental health diagnoses that victims often receive\, including Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Attendees will learn how to explain maladaptive coping mechanisms in the context of trauma. And the presenter will discuss appropriate treatment goals to address danger and the effects of domestic violence. Using case scenarios\, attendees will practice how to verbalize why they believe the victim and what services are indicated based on the initial evaluation. \nSpeaker: Ruth Guerreiro\, LCSW-S\nChief Clinical Officer\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support \nCEUs: 1.5 for LPC\, SW\, LMFT \nLOCATION:\nGenesis Women’s Shelter & Support\nNational Training Center\n2023 Lucas Drive\, Dallas\, TX 75219 \nNo RSVP needed for in-person attendance\nOr join us for the simultaneous webinar\non Zoom by registering HERE \nIf you can’t join us for the live event\, you can contact training@genesisshelter.org after 10/23/25 to receive a copy of the recording.\nHowever\, only live attendees will receive the CEU. \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:AI and Mental Health: Supporting Survivors in the Age of AI
DESCRIPTION:  \nDescription: Given the unmet demand for licensed mental health care\, AI companies are rushing to fill this gap with therapy apps\, AI companions\, and general-purpose chatbots like ChatGPT. They are marketed as effective\, available 24/7\, affordable\, and nonjudgmental. While these tools are rapidly gaining traction\, they exist in a largely unregulated and often misunderstood landscape\, creating confusion and risks about their true capabilities and limitations. \nThis session will highlight why AI literacy is now essential for victim service professionals when it comes to mental health. We’ll discuss how to help survivors make informed decisions about AI therapy tools\, how to talk about AI and mental health without stigma or shame\, and how to build a supportive environment that prioritizes safety and well-being in the digital age. Participants will walk away with practical strategies to guide conversations\, connect survivors to trusted resources\, and foster a culture of clarity and care as AI becomes part of the mental health landscape. \nSpeaker: Adam Dodge\nFounder & CEO\nEndTAB \nREGISTER HERE
